Netgate pfSense CE do wersji 2.9.0 zawiera lukę w zabezpieczeniach umożliwiającą obejście autoryzacji, która umożliwia użytkownikom interfejsu WebGUI tylko do odczytu zastąpienie pliku config.xml, ponieważ funkcje config_restore() i config_install() ignorują uprawnienie „Użytkownik - Config: Odmów zapisu konfiguracji”. Atakujący posiadający uprawnienia do strony Services_acb.php, uploadconfig.php, diag_confbak.php lub diag_backup.php mogą zainstalować wybrany plik config.xml, aby uzyskać wykonanie kodu na poziomie roota po ponownym załadowaniu lub ponownym uruchomieniu.
