Asterisk to prywatny zestaw narzędzi do wymiany oddziałów i telefonii o otwartym kodzie źródłowym. W wersjach wcześniejszych niż Asterisk 20.20.1, 21.12.3, 22.10.1, 23.4.1 i Certified Asterisk 20.7-cert11, 22.8-cert3 uwierzytelniony atakujący może spowodować przepełnienie bufora stosu w obsłudze `res_xmpp` `prefiksu przestrzeni nazw XMPP` przy użyciu starannie spreparowanych pakietów. Należy załadować moduł `res_xmpp`, skonfigurować połączenie XMPP w `xmpp.conf`, a osoba atakująca musi mieć konto XMPP na tym samym serwerze lub na serwerze stowarzyszonym. Ten problem został rozwiązany w Asterisk 20.20.1, 21.12.3, 22.10.1, 23.4.1 i Certified Asterisk 20.7-cert11, 22.8-cert3.
