ModSecurity to wieloplatformowy silnik zapory sieciowej (WAF) typu open source dla Apache, IIS i Nginx. W wersjach wcześniejszych niż 2.9.15 i 3.0.17 funkcja HttpsClient::download w src/utils/https_client.cc ustawia libcurl CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST na 1 zamiast ścisłej wartości 2L. W warunkach przechwytywania typu adversary-in-the-middle i TLS to nierygorystyczne ustawienie może osłabić weryfikację tożsamości równorzędnej TLS i zwiększyć ryzyko zaakceptowania certyfikatu dla niezamierzonego hosta. Kompleksowa eksploatacja nie jest trywialna w typowych środowiskach. Ten problem został rozwiązany w wersjach 2.9.15 i 3.0.17.
